In exciting further developments for the Girls Baseball initiative, we are thrilled to announce that all 4 little leagues of District 5 – West Van Little League, Highlands Little League, Lynn Valley Little League and Mount Seymour Little League – are coming together to form D5 Girls Baseball!

REGISTRATION IS OPEN for D5’s inaugural Spring GIRLS ONLY baseball program!

This girls-only program is meant to be an add-on to current programming within the league, however, players not already enrolled elsewhere are welcome to sign-up and enjoy a safe place to try baseball for the first time. While this program will focus on baseball, softball players are welcome and encouraged to come out!

OUR VISION

Our collective vision is to build a robust and sustainable program across the North Shore, in which girls will learn and develop while having fun and build life-long friendships through baseball.  Our long term goal is to grow this program into a girls only baseball league across our district!

WHY GIRLS-CENTERED PROGRAMMING?
Research by the Canadian Women’s Foundation (https://bitly.ws/35sDs) shows that girl-centered programming is encouraged for many reasons:
  • Boys and girls tend to have different needs and interests
  • Girls are more likely to be themselves in front of girls
  • Girls are more comfortable sharing and opening up in front of girls
  • Girls worry less about their appearance in front of other girls
  • Girls worry less about being teased/bullied in front of other girls
  • Girls tend to feel stronger and more special when in groups of only girls
  • Female role models show girls they can be smart and powerful
  • Girls find girls-only groups to be more positive and fun
Baseball BC is putting in tremendous effort into advancing girls-only baseball programs; from grassroots to high performance teams and leagues, there is something for everyone.
