Tournament Teams and Summer Baseball

Summer Tournament baseball is an exciting and rewarding experience that provides an opportunity to continue skill development in a fun and competitive environment.  Teams will participate in various exhibition games and tournaments against other Little League associations.  To be eligible to play on All-Star and Selects teams, players must meet little league age requirements and either reside or attend school within the Lynn Valley boundaries.  Proof of residency is required.

Player Selection

SUMMER TEAMS

The summer tournament teams will be selected on the basis of an in-season assessment by a combination Lynn Valley Little League Coaches and independent evaluatorsInput will also be solicited and considered from the players’ spring season coaches. The selection criteria will consider talent, commitment, and availability, together with having a positive attitude and demonstrating Lynn Valley’s values.

Try-outs for summer teams are held in mid-May to late May and will be communicated leaguewide mid-season. Summer teams at Lynn Valley traditionally include:

  • 7 Selects
  • 7/8 Selects

SPRING SEASON TOURNAMENT TEAMS

In addition to the Summer Tournament season, LVLL will look to participate in various local tournaments at various age groups across the May Long Weekend.  These teams operate based on coach interest and will be selected based on the spring minors assessments and notes from Minor and Major coaches.

These May teams are NOT the summer All-Star or Selects team.  Participation on a Spring Season Tournament team is not a requirement for selection to All-Star or Select teams, nor is participation in a May Tournament a guarantee for selection for the summer teams.

If you are interested in coaching a team for one of these tournaments, please reach out to the development team at info@lvll.ca

Upon coach selection, teams will be formed based on interest and using the information from the Spring assessments with input also being solicited from the players’ spring season coaches.

COACH SELECTION

Coaches interested in head/assistant coaching one of the Lynn Valley Tournament teams can submit an expression of interest to info@lvll.ca  Once all applications are received, the Lynn Valley Little League Board will meet to choose the coaching teams in mid-April. Any disputes or appeals will be brought forward to the Lynn Valley Board of Directors.

The Development Coordinator will provide each coach with a list of available summer tournaments and contacts for the Exhibition Games.   Coaches are responsible for developing and coordinating a summer season schedule for practices and games with the assistance of the LVLL board.

Overview of All-Star and Selects Teams

All-Star teams represent Lynn Valley Little League in the sanctioned Little League District 5 and Provincial tournaments. Selects teams promote player development in preparation for the following year’s All-Star tournament teams.  See below for further details on each team:

11/12 ALL STAR TEAM

– Top team of the best baseball age 11 and 12 year old players in the league
– Compete in the District 5 tournament for a chance to represent the District at the Provincials and beyond with goals to reach Nationals and the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.

Practices and exhibition games will begin immediately upon selection of the teams and may run during the conclusion of the Spring Season.  The team will compete in various exhibition games across the lower mainland and potential tournament play in Washington State through June in advance of the District 5 Tournament.

A very high commitment level is required on this team.  Between practices, exhibition games, and tournaments, players can expect to be at the ballpark 6 – 7 times a week.  The District championships generally run to mid-July. If Lynn Valley continues to advance, the Provincial tournament usually runs from late July into early August followed by the National Championships and the Little League World Series in mid/late August.

This is a competitive level of play and may not involve equal playing time across all players.

9/10 ALL STAR TEAM

– Top baseball age 9 and 10 year old players in the league
– Compete in the District 5 tournament for a chance to represent the District at the Provincials, which is the top tournament for this age group.

Practices, exhibition games, and tournaments will begin shortly after the regular season concludes.  Commitment is  4 – 5 days per week.  Tournaments and Exhibition games for the 11 Selects run through July.  Availability and commitment of players will be a contributing factor for team selection, however, there may be flexibility to substitute players between tournaments that is not available under the rules for All-Star teams,  so if you are unable to commit to the full period, accommodations may be considered if presented to the head coach prior to tryouts.

11/12 SELECTS OR 12 SELECTS

– Skilled baseball age 11 or 12 year old players that didn’t make the 11/12 All Star Team or the 11 Selects teams have the opportunity to make this team.

The LVLL 9 Selects families are responsible for running the league’s annual Canada Day tournament, which includes many hours of volunteering by the parents of all rostered players.
